Job Summary
RIC is seeking a 2 – 4‑year Design Engineer who is looking for a mentored role in the area of transportation and traffic engineering. Candidates should have a good grasp of civil engineering principles and design skills related to transportation work. This position will assist in roadway design, culvert design, drainage studies, utility coordination, traffic impact studies among other transportation-related design aspects. This position will support our growing Transportation Department and work on several projects for local municipalities and private developers. As a design engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of civil engineering projects and be a part of a dynamic team. Primary Responsibilities
- Roadway design using AutoCAD Civil 3D including Corridors and Pipe Networks
- Assist with traffic counts
- Perform field assessment of existing infrastructure and construction observation
- Assist with traffic impact studies, simulation modeling, traffic signal design, signal timing optimization and related ADA compliance
- Assist with plans for horizontal and vertical alignments on linear transportation projects
- Correspondence and coordination with impacted property owners
- Preparation of transportation and pedestrian signal plans
- Assist with shop drawing review
- Perform Quality Control reviews
- Compile and write technical reports
- Assist with permit applications
- Design and layout various intersection and corridor improvements including roundabouts and other innovative designs
- Develop plans and specifications for transportation management during construction, pavement marking and signage, and transportation signals
- Design pedestrian routes and walkability through developments
- Occasional local travel for data collection, site analysis, and field validation
- Perform intersection and geometric enhancement design
- Assist in public street light and parking lot lighting design
- Prepare network communication designs for traffic signal interconnect
Requirements
- AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation GEOPAK experience preferred
- 1 – 4 years of related experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software
- Ability to develop GIS, CAD, and data management skills
- Basic knowledge of civil engineering concepts
- Basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems, spreadsheets, and databases
- Strong problem-solving and math skills
- Ability to perform under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Education Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- EI certification preferred
