Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled professional traffic engineer who is looking for an opportunity to join a great company and get involved in a variety of projects.  Candidates should have strong project management skills and be able to perform traffic engineering, studies, and analysis, as well as mentoring other engineers and designers. This position will be responsible for traffic engineering projects from start to completion including planning, design, and deployment.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Traffic impact studies, simulation modeling, traffic signal design, signal timing optimization and related ADA compliance
  • Traffic system planning, design and operation, and traffic control systems
  • Preparation of traffic and pedestrian signal plans
  • Perform traffic analysis using a variety of simulation software
  • Review and interpret analysis from simulations and calculations
  • Turning movement analyses
  • Generate before and after traffic study reports
  • Utilize monitoring tools to observe real-time traffic flow and conditions
  • Use project management skills to plan, organize, monitor and direct work activities and budgets
  • Participate in business development opportunities, including proposal preparation, participation in client meetings and engagement in marketing activities to grow our client network in the Midwest
  • Design and layout various intersection and corridor improvements including roundabouts and other innovative designs
  • Develop plans and specifications for traffic management during construction, pavement marking and signage, and traffic signals
  • Pedestrian routes walkability through developments
  • Mentor and oversee work done by entry level engineers and technicians
  • Occasional travel for data collection, site analysis, and field validation
  • Perform intersection and geometric enhancement design
  • Perform public street light and parking lot lighting design

 

Requirements

  • Proven leadership skills
  • Experience with project management to include proposal development, negotiating project scopes, cost estimates and schedule development
  • Experience meeting scope, schedules and budgets on traffic engineering projects
  • 5-7 years minimum of traffic engineering and/or transportation planning experience
  • Experience with traffic impact studies and analyses, site access and circulation studies, corridor studies, and parking studies
  • Strong working technical knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices
  • Proficient in traffic analysis software including HCS, Synchro, CORSIM, Tru-Traffic and VISSIM
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation GEOPak
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Comfortable with client interaction
  • Ability to perform under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt to change
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software
  • Organized and punctual

 

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Kansas and/or Missouri or the ability to acquire licensure within 6 months from date of hire
  • PTOE certification
