Job Summary

RIC is seeking a talented land survey manager with a strong knowledge of the civil engineering industry to join our team.  A qualified candidate must be able to work as part of a team, be reliable, have a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.  In this role, you will be responsible for assisting our team of engineers and survey technicians in the planning, scheduling and performance of multiple survey projects.  Candidates should be able to apply sound survey principles in planning, evaluation and completing survey projects as well as approving field measurements and directing and assisting with the preparation of survey documents.  We are seeking an individual who shares our passion for a high quality work product and enjoys a fast-paced work environment.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish horizontal and vertical control systems for highway projects using GPS equipment and software
  • Collect topography data for roadway design
  • Gather information about location and ownership of existing right-of-ways and adjoining property by researching survey plats, county records, title commitments and field notes
  • Will be in charge of field surveys to determine location of right-of-way and other boundaries
  • Evaluate survey field notes, evidence and information by using mathematics, AutoCAD Civil 3D and laws pertaining to land surveying
  • Calculate areas of land parcels and easements to be acquired or sold and create legal descriptions
  • Create right-of-way plans by drawing, labeling and annotating right-of-way lines, property lines, highway centerlines, topography and other features using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Restore and upgrade land survey monuments to state and federal standards
  • Prepare, stamp and file right-of-way plans and records required
  • Train field crews in the use of surveying equipment, proper survey methods, techniques for collecting and analyzing data and applicable state laws
  • Abide by all safety regulations, policies and procedures



  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in surveying/survey management with a variety of survey work experience
  • Work effectively and professionally with internal team members and external client personnel
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience
  • Solid math skills
  • Demonstrate experience in identifying/resolving land survey and property ownership issues by utilizing land surveying principles and applying state statutes and regulations pertaining to land surveying and property
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in right-of-way plan preparation using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organization, time and project management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple teams
  • Ability to prioritize project deadlines
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Willingness to work in the office and out in the field when needed
  • Boundary topographic survey experience
  • Proficient with surveying equipment and software
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Attention to technical detail
  • Strong safety focus
  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and team situations


Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensed in a Midwestern state
