Job Summary

RIC is seeking an experienced senior engineering technician to assist project managers with producing full plan sets from start to finish.  An ideal technician will be able to perform drafting, design and plan preparation as well as produce site plans, grading plans, utility designs utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation GEOPAK objects and styles to achieve accurate and detailed products efficiently.  This position requires the candidate to support various members of the civil engineering staff on a variety of infrastructure projects and interface with clients as required.  Candidates should have a strong sense of responsibility, be self-motivated, and have the ability to find answers and make decisions with little to no supervision. Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, design, and modify engineering drawings for infrastructure, roadway and site development projects
  • Effectively utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation GEOPAK in plan production
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with the project managers before, during, and after completion of work
  • Supervise and teach other technicians
  • Prepare plan sets and application submittal documents
  • Generate quantities and estimates from plan sets
  • Assist with specifications for plan sets



  • Work effectively and professionally with internal team members and external client personnel
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation GEOPAK experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Organized and punctual
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple teams
  • Ability to prioritize project deadlines
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Experience in engineering environment and engineering and/or technical coursework
  • Knowledge of local engineering design criteria and language, local codes and design criteria
  • Basic knowledge of storm sewer design
  • Willingness to work in the office and out in the field when needed


Education Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree or higher in a related field and minimum of 4 years of experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation GEOPAK in plan production
  • In lieu of Associate’s Degree, minimum of 5 years of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation GEOPAK experience, specifically in civil engineering
