Job Summary

RIC is seeking a design engineer for a mentored role in engineering design and analysis of public and private projects throughout the KC Metro and surrounding region.  In this role, the candidate will perform duties that relate to the design of storm water management systems, utilities, and other site infrastructure. This position entails working on a team to provide assistance in the development and drafting of design plans and reports for our residential, commercial and industrial projects. Areas of emphasis include site design, roadway design, railway design, utility design, grading and erosion control plans, storm sewer design, and water quality BMP design. As a design engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of civil engineering projects instead of focusing on just one specialty. Primary Responsibilities

  • Work effectively and professionally with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Prioritize project deadlines

  • Assist with plans for horizontal and vertical alignments on linear transportation projects
  • Perform field assessment of existing infrastructure and construction observation
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and modeling
  • Assist with site grading and design
  • Assist with shop drawings
  • Compile and write technical reports
  • Assist with permit applications

 

Requirements

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation GEOPAK experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software
  • Team player

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and math skills

  • Basic knowledge of local engineering design criteria and language

  • 1-2 years of related experience in engineering environment
  • Ability to develop GIS, CAD and data management skills

 

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam preferred
